The Shire of Panther Vale, SCA will be hosting a medieval demo at the Derby Line Community Day on August 10th from 10am to 4pm at Derby Line’s Baxter Park.

Stop by to learn how you can live the current middle ages and get involved!

The SCA offers a wide variety of activities and experiences. At this demo, you can:
– see craftspeople actively working on medieval inspired projects
– try your hand at thrown weapons
– watch fencing demonstrations – starting at 11am and then on the hour every hour until 4pm
– try your hand at shooting combat archery – shoot at a static target using combat archery equipment
– work with our fencing marshal to get some fencing instruction
– learn more about other activities in the SCA that we aren’t able to offer at this demo, like armored fighting, target archery, equestrian, and the vast array of medieval arts and sciences
– ask questions and get information about the SCA to see how you can join the current middle ages

Offerings may be subject to change. To participate in throwing weapons and combat archery requires signing of a waiver and following SCA safety standards.

In order for minors ages 5 and older to try thrown weapons and combat archery, they must be accompanied by a parent.

Unlike a Renaissance Faire, the SCA is participatory – no-one is simply a spectator. All the attendees play a part in creating the atmosphere by reenacting whatever aspects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance interest them the most. This demo is a chance for you to see what the SCA is about without having to participate!
