Join the Shire of Panther Vale and Mountain Freehold and experience the grand opening of The Wassail Tavern!
Come, traveler, sit and warm your weary bones, listen to the sounds of laughter and joy all around, and the take in the aroma and taste of good food. Join us for a day of revelry and yuletide! Classes, demonstrations, Bardic gatherings, and comfort of friends and chosen family help relieve the cold and sometimes dreary times the winter months bring.
The A&S display this year will be a theme of past and present. Bring a past project, either the project itself or images/documentation of the project along with anything you’ve been currently working on, incomplete or otherwise, to put on display.
As with tradition at these events, we’ll be having the gift exchange table. Bring clean, unwrapped items to place on the table. One item means you get to choose something on your turn! How it works: You bring an item for the table. Before the night is out, we’ll have the gift exchange based on the number of years active in the SCA, starting with the newest and those in most need, finally working our way through the years until we reach those who were around when rocks were soft and trees were just twigs in the ground.
Adding onto this, we will be having a separate table for the younglings of the region. Parents may bring an additional item, separate from the gift exchange table, that would be of use to a child under 12 and their parents. This can be anything from garb that has been outgrown or tools, toys, or books a child may like or a parent may find useful.

Lodging
We have arranged a block of rooms at Comfort Inn & Suites at Maplewood, 213 Paine Turnpike North, Montpelier. To book at the discounted rate you will need to contact the hotel directly by calling (802) 229-2222 or reserve online. The deadline for this rate is December 12, 2023.
There are a limited number of hotels in central Vermont, made worse by the flooding we had over the summer, so we encourage you to plan early and call ahead. There are still more choices in Burlington/Waterbury, VT to the northwest and White River Junction, VT/West Lebanon, NH to the southeast.
Due to COVID and other circumstances, we do not recommend the Hilltop Inn in Barre, EconoLodge in Montpelier, or Pierre Motel in Barre.

Directions
Make your best route to I-89 exit 7 in Vermont.
Once off I-89 at Exit 7, you’ll pass the Comfort Inn and the Exit 7 traveler’s center (a 24-hr convenience store with gas/diesel/shower) as well as an Electric Vehicle station. Continue on Rt. 62 passing the “mall”.
At the third light, with the hospital on the left, be in the left lane to go into Barre.
Follow Rt. 62 all the way to Main Street (sharp turn, railroad tracks, followed by the second light) and turn right onto Main street.
Follow Main Street until the road forks slightly, stay left but in the right lane to go straight.
Just as you start up the hill, take a left onto Academy Street. Masonic building is on the left and road side parking is first come first served along the sidewalks or around the edge of the park ahead, but not on Park Street.
